Few things can be as disruptive as the sound of someone wadding up trash. The only way that it can be more problematic is if the student then gets up and saunters to the trash can in the middle of the lesson to throw away the refuse.

We use the following procedure in our classroom:

1. Fold it — don’t wad it.
2. First fold it hamburger style.
3. Next, fold it hot-dog style.
4. Place it in the recycle bin on your way out.
