-tion

The suffix -tion almost always indicates a noun. It also indicates that it came from a verb. It means the act or instance of x-ing, with “x” being the verb in question.

  • transportation = the act or instance of transporting
  • communication = the act or instance of communicating
  • resignation = the act or instance of resigning
