The Giver

The Giver is one of those rare books that one never forgets. While the dystopian genre is not new, it’s only been recently that dystopian title have appeared in adolescent literature. The Hunger Games series is certainly proof of how popular they can be. While similar in many ways to The Hunger Games, Louis Lowery’s The Giver is a different kind of book: it asks fundamental questions about the nature of memory, the importance of names, and, like all dystopian novels, the desirability of a “perfect” world.
