Science Fiction

There are a few generalizations we can make about science fiction, particularly the selections we read in class.

  1. Set in the future.
  2. Use of imaginative, highly advanced technology.
  3. Search for (or disintegration of) a “perfect” world.
  4. Issues of control or manipulation.
  5. Commentary on our present world.

Not all science fiction selections have all these elements. Indeed, some science fiction has only one or two of the above-mentioned elements.
