Conjunctions

Conjunctions join words or groups of words. There are two primary types of conjunctions.

Coordinating Conjunctions

The most common type of conjunction is the coordinating conjunctions. They are:

  • and
  • but
  • or
  • nor
  • for
  • so
  • yet

Coordinating conjunctions are often used with a comma (when combining two independent clauses to form a compound sentence).

Corelative Conjunctions

As the name indicates, corelative conjunctions show a relationship between two elements. the correlative pairs are:

  • both / and
  • whether / or
  • either / or
  • neither / nor
  • not only / but also
