English 8 Strategies students turned to grammar, it being Wednesday, practicing correcting run-on sentences after learning to identify them last week. We’ll finish this and Monday’s lesson up tomorrow, then move to a combination of fragments and run-ons during the next few Wednesday grammar sessions.

Fourth period turned to a controversial subject, the use of the pejorative term for African Americans in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. It will be another potential project topic for the unit, and we’ll complete our work with it tomorrow.

In sixth period English I Honors, we finished parts of speech, specifically prepositions. We did a little practice with partners. We’ll have a small parts of speech test soon. After we finished that, we learned a little about what taboo is. First of all we talked about the game, then we began examining what real taboo means. We’ll finish this tomorrow, applying it to the book.

Homework

  • English I Honors:
    • fourth period:
      • create a brief outline of your argument regarding Emmett Till (in other words, distill the work from class into a simple Claim/Evidence/Counter-claim/Rebuttal outline);
      • continue reading Mockingbird, completing the novel through chapter 12 by Friday.
    • sixth period:
      • complete three taboo cards;
      • study for vocabulary quiz (chapters three and four), which will be Tuesday;
    • all students: finish the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack project.

  2. Hi Ariana! Thanks for the comment. I hope you’re doing well in your new school, but I do still wish you were here in a way: you were a pleasure to work with.
