Scene Four, Project Work, Research

First and sixth periods, after evaluating and turning in their SSR Reader’s Journals, went through scene four from the first act of Diary of Anne Frank. We’ll be doing some supplementary reading tomorrow before finishing up act one on Thursday.

Second and fourth periods, due to the large number of Battle of the Brain absences, spent the day working on their Romeo and Juliet projects, specifically discussing and planning the content of the most difficult part of the essay.

Seventh period finished up research and began working on their PowerPoint presentations. We’ll be going over effective PP presentations later this week, but due to lab scheduling difficulties, we had to begin creating the PP before going over what makes an effective PP presentation.

Homework
  • First and sixth periods:
    • re-read 1.4;
    • write two double-sided journal entries for the scene;
    • complete the letter to someone you admire PASS practice test.
  • Second and fourth periods: continue working on Romeo and Juliet project.
  • Seventh period: none.

About Mr. Scott

One of three eighth-grade English Language Arts teachers at Hughes Academy, I have fourteen years' experience in the classroom, including experience teaching English as a Foreign Language and working with at-risk youth. Most of my teaching experience is international. For seven years, I taught English in a small village in the south of Poland. It was a constant challenge, but immensely rewarding. My first job when I returned to the States was as a teaching assistant in an EC classroom, working primarily with children on the autism spectrum. During the 2006/7 school year, I worked at a day-treatment facility for at risk youth, teaching social studies, science, and social skills. I graduated from King College in Bristol, Tennessee with a degree in English, minoring in Secondary Education.
